Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra
In 1936, a dream became a reality when the Teaneck Symphony Orchestra was formed. Its Certificate of Incorporation states “… the purpose for which this corporation is formed is to promote and further the appreciation and understanding of fine music and to provide an opportunity for those with an interest and love of music to perform with others for the enjoyment of the general public.” This distinguished group today is known as the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. For the past 87 years, the orchestra has been committed to the enhancement of the musical life of Bergen County and surrounding areas by reaching out to the young as well as the adults. The goal of the orchestra, continues to be to provide artistic excellence on the part of the conductor and musicians, as well as to present programs the public will truly enjoy.
Our orchestra is made up of people from all walks of life, mostly professional musicians, who live in or near Bergen County. They are a hardworking, devoted group, who attend many hours of rehearsals, enjoying the camaraderie of their peers, plus the enjoyment of the music. Many distinguished guests have performed with the orchestra over the years. Just to name a few are: Van Cliburn, Arthur Fiedler, Eugene Fodor, Robert Merrill, Roberta Peters, Dizzy Gillespie, Marian McPartland, Jacques D’Amboise, Andre Watts, Bucky Pizzarelli, Bob McGrath, Anthony Laciura, and the list continues on.
The orchestra welcomes and truly appreciates the support of the public of Bergen County as well as the much-needed financial assistance by many of the county’s corporations, companies, financial institutions, and the Bergen County Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs through the NJ State Council on the Arts State/County Partnership Program.
